A message from David Stopps
This is a note about the live triple CD of the 25th Anniversary Concert but first I want to say a big thank you to all those who came to the concert and made it such a success.
From our side it was a pretty ambitious project, but amazingly we sold it out without spending one penny on advertising. It was all done with press, promotion and word of mouth. Enormous thanks to to all those who worked so hard to put this together and of course massive thanks to all the musicians and guests who participated. The one person who put more energy into the concert than anyone else was Howard himself who was the musical director for the whole show and who insisted on the highest possible standards at very stage. I can’t believe he seemed/was so relaxed as he had so much to remember.

The only near hitch was Jed’s appearance. It had all been planned for weeks that Jed would make an on-stage appearance. The trouble is that somehow no one had phoned Jed to tell him.
Everybody thought somebody else had done it. As luck would have it I bumped in to Jed upstairs completely by accident about 10 minutes before he was due to go on. A little shocked, I escorted him back-stage and there on stage right, right on cue was Jed waiting to go on.

But I digress. The point of this note is to explain the situation with the triple CD. As you know the whole point of it was to record the concert, manufacture the CD’s back stage and then make them available for purchase at the end of the evening. We used the company Live Hear Now who are part of the legendary Mute Records (Depeche/Moby etc) who are specialists at doing this and everything worked out very well. I have not heard of any criticisms about the triple CD at all and everyone seemed very pleased with it. We had nothing but positive feedback.

When Howard and I listened to it in Japan we were also very pleased with the recording but having sold out of the initial burn thought we would take the opportunity to make a few level changes here and there. So we asked the legendary Stephen W Tayler who was at the concert and who happened to be available if he could make the changes that we wanted. This week he has managed to do that and this slightly different version will be available from now on.

This kind of thing is often very subjective and it may well be that you prefer the original. If you bought the original and are happy with it please don’t think about buying version 2 as well.
You don’t need to. It is exactly the same recording. I was forwarded an e-mail from someone who said that now they HAD to buy the new one....well no one has to buy anything.

If, however, you really want version 2 we have made an arrangement with LHN that if you send in CD1 as proof of purchase they will send you the entire triple CD version 2 for £10.00 incl P&P.
LHN will then return the original CD1 with the version 2 triple CD. I hope you agree that that’s a very fair arrangement.
Please send a cheque or postal order or cash with the CD1 to : -

The long overdue tour in Japan was amazingly successful and it was great to see some comments on the Guest Book entirely in Japanese (!?) A big thank you in particular to Katsu Ogawa and Marina who looked after us so well. I knew Katsu was a long time fan but I had no idea that he had even visited John and Thelma in Green Street High Wycombe in the old days. Katsu currently is the manager for Asian Kung Fu Generation who are one of the biggest bands in Japan.

One story I must tell you about is that on the last night in Fukuoka (careful how you say that) everyone went out to one of Japan’s famous karaoke clubs. The karaoke machine rated out of 100 how close to the original your version was. Howard went up and did his best version of New Song....and scored 92!
